BUA Barry Urquhart Associates is a progressive Practice that is used to dealing with complex and specialised projects in a relatively short timescale. With its thorough working knowledge of the construction industry and experienced in commercial, industrial, hospitals, health care, education, energy centres, green design and housing projects, the Practice has been appointed as Architects in the conventional role as Lead Consultants, professional Team Leaders on Design & Build contracts and as Designer on Energy Centres. The Practice also undertakes Project Management and Planning Supervision..

Barry Urquhart, Dip.Arch.(Hons.) RIBA FBEng FCIOB, is a fourth generation Architect who obtained his qualification with both honours and distinction in his thesis. He made his own way in the profession, from office junior to partner in a large firm of Architects before forming his own Practice in 1977. He has recently produced a system of timber framed modular houses and flats using a combination of only seven different panels, which could be the answer to the lack of high quality affordable housing, particularly in city centres.

He believes that design and organisation go hand in hand and has a tried and tested system for running contracts that exerts close cost control. With the office being fully computerised and with almost 30 years’ experience, few of the projects exceed the contract sum.

Barry Urquhart is supported by a team of other architects, technicians and administrative staff and the size of projects handled varies from approximately £500,000 to £30 million.
